The Dallas Police Association, "DPA", will provide payment for legal assistance to it’s membership through the law firm of Lyon, Gorsky, Haring & Gilbert, L.L.P., 3131 McKinney Avenue, Suite 100, Dallas, Texas. If Lyon, Gorsky, Haring & Gilbert, L.L.P. is unable to represent the member, the member may choose other approved counsel, however, the DPA will pay that counsel in accordance with its fee agreement with Lyon, Gorsky, Haring & Gilbert, L.L.P. Legal fees and/or expenses will not be paid by the DPA on behalf of a member to any other attorney or law firm without the prior approval of the President or Vice President responsible for legal assistance, or the Board of Directors.

The incident or incidents, which are made the basis of any legal matter, must have taken place while the member was a member of the DPA.

Any obligation of the DPA to pay for legal assistance under these guidelines shall cease if, during the course of the investigation or legal action which is the basis for payment of legal costs, the member ceases to be a member for any reason, including but not limited to the member's failure to pay dues as required by the Constitution and By-laws of the DPA. Members who receive an involuntary termination and who are receiving DPA legal assistance under these guidelines shall not lose his/her legal assistance funding as a result of that involuntary termination
