| The DPA vigorously pursues its goal of a better future for Dallas. Through its many diverse programs, the DPA seeks to make Dallas a better home for its residents, by creating a better environment for its police officers. In addition to its legal, legislative and support activities, the DPA also sponsors many programs to enhance the quality of life. |
Dallas Choir
In 1983 the Dallas Police Association created a Choir that is now internationally known. This choir performs at Police Academy graduation ceremonies, hospitals, for dignitaries that are visiting, dedications, etc.

Increase in Pay and Benefits
Dallas Police Association has been responsible for securing improvements in pay, benefits, and working conditions for Dallas Police Officers.
Overtime Pay
In 1979 Pay Referendum earned officers a 15% pay hike
The right of officers to seek public office
The right of officers to endorse candidates for public office
Shift Differential Pay for officers working the evening and night shifts
Officers equipped with semi-automatic weapons
Education Incentive Pay
Pay Raise Initiative resulting in a 5% pay raise for 3 years
Merit Step system
Temporary Assignment Pay for officers filling higher positions on a temporary basis
Increased Vacation and Sick Leave |

In 1985 members of the Dallas Police Association formed the Wish Upon A Star Foundation to meet the critical needs of, or grant special wishes for chronically or terminally ill children.
The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to exhausting every available resource to provide as much happiness as possible for each of these very special kids!

The foundation is led and administered by an all volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of Dallas police officers. |
